Macau has overtaken the world famous gambling destinations of Las Vegas and Monte Carlo in just a few years to become the most profitable gambling destination in the world. This 11 mile resort city in the Pearl River Delta has been transformed almost overnight into a glittering international gaming hotspot that caters to jetfoils full of Chinese from Hong Kong who disembark from the ferries to enjoy all the city has to offer.
These are joined by new arrivals by land from the Chinese border which is located just one mile to the north of Macau. On a typical Saturday night visitors stream into the city at a rate of over 16,000 per hour, their pocketbooks full of disposable cash. Most of them are in Macau for short stays which will be spent almost entirely in one of the 40 city casinos.

The New Sands Macau resort is set to house several major hotel brands within its massive complex. The Sands China Ltd development company, which is a subsidiary of Las Vegas Sands, has just announced that its multibillion dollar development will house international luxury hotel brands including Hilton and Intercontinental following its opening next year.
The resort is located on the glittering Cotai strip in Macau, right next to the Venetian resort which is also owned by Sands China Ltd. The Cotai Central will be much larger with over 6,000 hotel rooms from both the Holiday Inn, Sheraton and Conrad brands. The resort is set to open next spring, and it is considered by many to be the crowning glory of the unprecedented Macau metamorphosis into an international gambling center and vacation hotspot.

Macau is a premier location for luxury travel, and one of the latest mega developments in this fascinating resort is known as the City of Dreams. It is a complex of three hotels including the Hard Rock, which is an iconic favorite of younger travelers. Joining the Hard Rock is the Grand Hyatt and the Crown, which are catering to the business crowd and the convention business. The Crown is a well known Australian brand which represents the epitome of modern luxury.
These hotels revolve around a joint mega casino, but unlike in Las Vegas you don't have to walk through the casino floor each time you want to go to and from your hotel room. Instead, the casino occupies its own level and shares some floor space with each of the hotels.
